I’m so excited to share with you the announcement of our local Yellow Mountain Garden’s CSA program for 2020! I’ve compiled a few Q&A’s about the program, which you'll find below. I cannot stress enough how fantastic this program is and how wonderful the benefits are. I mean, who doesn't love fresh, locally grown produce loaded with flavor and essential vitamins? This program is designed to bring farm-to-table dining right to your door!

What is a CSA? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically, the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.

What can you expect in a weekly box? The contents of the CSA box will vary throughout the growing season. Here is a rough outline from our friends at Yellow Mountain Garden describing what to expect each month.

·     Starting in May, the early summer boxes will have greens such as green kale, lettuce, green onion, spinach, Swiss Chard and even some strawberries.

·     The summer boxes will start in early July and will contain cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, yellow zucchini, and blackberries.

·     In mid-July, the boxes will contain tomatoes (heirloom), blackberries, Blue Lake Beans, corn, and bell peppers.

·     As the growing season tapers off, the boxes will see the return of greens like kale, spinach, lettuce, and onions, with the addition of spaghetti squash, arugula, mustard greens, and collards (some heirloom types).

How many people does a “share” feed? A share is typically enough for a family of four (or less with plenty of leftovers to freeze or share if applicable).

How much does it cost? If you purchase a full share up front, the cost is $560 for the full 16 weeks. This provides SIGNIFICANT savings compared to the grocery store with the added benefit of being locally produced food!

How do I get my weekly box? Yellow Mountain Garden has offered FREE delivery to your doorstep within the Cashiers, Highlands, and Franklin area, or an option for local pick up at the farm.
